SIM is a Montreal-based producer and researcher whose work exists at the intersection of genres. Known for coining the term "Slow Tech" to describe his unique approach to sound, SIM creates a gravitational pull between genres—particularly Techno and Dancehall—while maintaining the integrity of their respective histories. His sound traverses both the abstract and the concrete, drawing inspiration from Dub and Dancehall pioneers like Lee "Scratch" Perry, King Tubby, and Dave Kelly, alongside Techno innovators like Plastikman and Jeff Mills.
The release of Pu$$ycat in 2018, a collaboration with Catalan duo Crimen Pasional, marked a turning point in SIM's career, amplifying his voice within the international scene. Since then, his collaborative spirit has only grown, working with artists such as Brodinski, Sinjin Hawke, Grove, Henzo, Madam X, Doctor Jeep, DJ Plead, Toumba, and Siu Mata, among others.
His recent discography showcases a diverse range of sounds and styles, with standout releases like the SIM000 releases, the SLOWTECHERS mix series ‘Oil Drum’ with Doctor Jeep, the Sulum EP on Berlin’s SPE:C Records and the Terminate EP on London’s renowned Nervous Horizon.
Through his artistic practice and academic research, SIM continues to redefine the conversation around Sound System culture and electronic music, pushing the boundaries of genre and cultural dialogue on a global scale.
